Guide to Cross stitch needles

For Cross Stitch and Tapestry use blunt needles.
Sizes are as follows: 18,22,24,26,28

The smaller the number the larger the needle. Size 18 is for tapestry wool.
Size 24 is the standard size for cross stitch (using 14hpi fabric)

Size 26 are ideal for 18 count and some people prefer it for 16 count aida.

Size 28 is the preffered needle for evenweave fabrics.

Crewel work uses sharp pointed needles. there are also Gold Plated Needles

Twin Pointed Needles


A double needle. The hole is in the middle and there is a blunt point at each end.
Available in packs of 3.
Size 24 or 26

Gold Plated Needles

Gold plated needles do not tarnish but are fractionally thicker.

You can buy pure gold or even platimum needles.
Gold needles are soft and tend to bend
Platimium needles are excellent if you can afford them
