Huck Weaving

Huck is 7½ count and is a special weave for Huck Weaving also called "Huck Darning" or "Swedish Weaving".

Sew using a large tapestry needle or specialised bodkin. A thick thread such as pearle cotton or 4-6 strands of stranded cotton produces the best results. Thread is woven in and out of the top threads caled "Floats" in such a way that the thread rarely penetrates the back of the fabric.

The straight stitch (a) is made by passing the needle underneath the double floats lying vertical to the direction of the embroidery. For a Figure of eight (b) pass the needle from right to left under the double floats above the base floats then (c) once again from right to left under the base floats. For some paterns longer diagonal stiches are used jumping between floats to make the right angle.

Do not knot thread ends. Either catch them in when binding the edged or weave them back into the embroidery

Huck Weaving can also be done on finer block weaves using a #26 tapestry needle and 2 stands of stranded cotton.
