Embroidery Rings and Flexi-hoops
There is a certain amount of confusion between flexi-hoops and embroidery rings.
Flexi-hoops work much the same except that once finished you can trim the edge, run a running stitch around the back and secure the work in the frame to display it.
Spring Hoops
Used mostly by Machine embroiderers these hoops have a steel inner which sits inside a plastic outer sleeve.
Rotating frames
The best way to hold fabric firmly for stitching.

There are various floor standing models available
The Versatile Clamp has a table or seat version
Clamps and hoops resting on the table not the floor
For large pieces (over 30" / 75 cms) we recommend floor standing frames
Floor Standing frames
Ideal for tapestries or larger pieces of work.
Some frames have screw adjusting stretchers or tilting to allow frame to be moved closer to the sewer
Hand held or fixed they are often necessary, especially in poor light or with failing eyesight.
DMC now produce 2 sizes of this type both 2X magnifyer
There is also the Mighty Bright which includes a battery light

On the above picture the flexi-hoop is on the right.
Embroidery hoops are either spring loaded or screw tightened. They are designed to hold the fabric keeping the holes even and reducing the wear and tear while sewing. Once finished the piece is removed, cleaned and then framed.
Some Embroidery Rings have a stalk attached to allow them to sit in a Seat frame
Hoops and rings are ideal for designs up to 8 to 10 inches but there is a tendancy for them to mark the fabric.
Wrapping an extra piece of material inside the hoop or ring can prevent marks but it also reduces the effectiveness of the ring.
For larger pieces of work we recommend using a rotating frame or Super Frame
Flexi Hoops are becoming more difficult to obtain, especially coloured ones. Flexi Hoops
Embroidery rings come in a range of sizes from 4 inches (10 cms ) to 10 inches ( 25cms )
Also ovals from 3"x5" (7.5cms x 12.5cms) up to 8" x 10" (20cms x 25cms)
Simply lay the material over the spring, depress the handles and slip over the cover.
Three sizes available 3½", 5", and 7"
Tack the top and bottom of the fabric to the tapes using a running stitch and then roll until the part you are working on is in the middle.
They come in many sizes from 9"x6" (21 cms x 15 cms) up to 36" x 12" (90 cms x 30 cms)
The size you need is governed by the width of your fabric. The length is taken up on the rollers. Obviously you need to have enough length to span the gap (i.e 6 inches for a 12 x 6 frame)
If you use them a lot you may need a clamp or stand

The neck magnifier is fine for reading charts or looking at something but if you need to magnify the actual work then you will need a fixed magnifier.
You can get table magnifiers with or without lamps, but the difference in cost is actually quite small.
Most come with either a clamp or a solid base, though the fixings tend to be interchangeable.
The clamps fit to a table or the 2000 standClip-on Magnifiers
